National Brotherhood of Skiers Partners with Spot to Offer Injury Insurance to Members

Spot Insurance to Cover Ski, Snowboard, and Mountain Bike-related Injuries

CHICAGO --- January 18, 2022 --- The National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) today announced a new partnership with Spot, the tech startup offering a subscription, on-demand injury insurance that protects everyone from athletes and adventurers to families at home. NBS is dedicated to increasing winter sports participation among underrepresented communities and promoting equal access to mountain resorts.

NBS members who sign up for Spot can now receive up to $25K for out-of-pocket medical bills, with a $0 deductible, in the event of a ski, snowboard, or mountain bike-related injury anywhere in the US, whether they have health insurance or not. High-risk activities like winter sports can lead to devastating medical bills; Spot fills in the gaps left by health insurance by paying out-of-pocket medical expenses for accidental injuries.

“We’re very excited to partner with Spot to offer extra protection and support for our members as they hit the mountain,” said Lee Valentine, Executive Vice President. “This collaboration furthers our mission to increase snowsport participation among those who otherwise wouldn’t have access.”

Spot coverage allows NBS members to receive treatment at any licensed physician, hospital, or urgent care clinic. Once they receive their first bill, they can file a claim through Spot’s website by taking pictures of the bill on their phones, explaining how they were injured, and answering a few other questions. After quick communications through email and chat, Spot’s claims team coordinates payment via check to the visitor or their healthcare provider.

“We know that injuries can lead to devastating medical bills, deterring many from even thinking about hitting the slopes,” said Matt Randall, CEO at Spot. “Spot is proud to partner with NBS to open up even more opportunities for underrepresented communities to engage in on-the-mountain activities without hesitation or worry while fostering self-discovery, confidence, and healthy lifestyles.”
